I’m Nushin Nahidpour, a British artist and designer working across drawing, painting, digital drawing and mixed media. My practice moves between physical and digital processes, including charcoal, pencil, acrylic, ink and vector-based drawing. The choice of medium is often prompted by the idea, but it is not simply a means of carrying that idea out. Much of the work takes shape through the process itself — through testing the possibilities of materials, and through the relationships that emerge between line, form and colour. The initial idea and its visual language develop alongside one another, and neither is necessarily settled at the outset.

My visual thinking has been shaped by more than one discipline and more than one cultural tradition. A long engagement with different cultures, their visual languages and histories has become part of the way I look at and make work. My background in graphic design is another strand of this, informing an instinct for composition, typography and the relationship between image and text.

Trained in fine art, I have spent much of my professional life within the creative industries while maintaining an independent art practice. I am a member of the Chartered Society of Designers (CSD) and the International Society of Typographic Designers (ISTD).
